Investigations into the murder of Frankie Gooding Mitchell ‘still alive’

While the police are yet to charge anyone for the murder of Florida/ Bequia resident Frankie Gooding Mitchell, Vincentians are being given the assurance that investigations into that killing “are very much alive.”

This assurance has come from Assistant Commissioner of Police Trevor Bailey.

ACP Bailey spoke on the matter on Sunday, December 10, while he was a guest on the ‘Issue at Hand’ program on We FM.

Gooding Mitchell was fatally shot on the night of Saturday January 21 while at Friendship, Bequia.

At the time of the shooting, he was reportedly about to enter a vehicle in the company of a friend.

Gooding Mitchell, who was 62 years old at the time, was taken to the Port Elizabeth Hospital, where he died.

After the killing of the US based Vincentian, his wife Mary offered a US$5000 reward for information relating to the shooting death of her husband.

As time passed and the killer continued to evade capture, the police sought the assistance of the US Federal Bureau of Investigation.

However, this murder on Bequia remains unsolved to date.

While persons might be thinking that the case has gone cold, ACP Bailey said the matter still has the attention of the FBI lab, where samples had been sent for testing.

The veteran crime fighter indicated that they have already had preliminary reports from the FBI, and further reports are expected.

ACP Bailey further noted that the family of the deceased are aware of what is happing.

The shooting death, which took place around 7:30 pm on January 21, was the fifth homicide for 2023.

At present, the homicide count stands at 52.
