Rotarians focusing on mental health awareness

The Rotary Club of St Vincent South continues to focus on creating awareness about mental health.

According to Governor of District 7030, Brian Glasgow, the group’s main focus this year and continuing in 2024 is on promoting mental health, as despite what some persons think, mental health is important and affects everyone in some way or the other.

“Not some of us, all of us, and if you don’t think it affects you, think again,” Glasgow told a gathering at the Paradise Beach Hotel in Villa recently, while speaking at the launch of the 2024 Rotary District 7030 Conference.

Glasgow said his club wants to create an awareness of how mental health affects the population, especially young people.

“We want to address issues like suicide prevention, depression and the great thing about this mission of ours is that we wouldn’t be doing it as an isolated country, we wouldn’t be doing it as St Vincent and the Grenadines, we would be doing it as a district and that is only one of our themes for the year, one of our missions,” Glasgow said.

Glasgow said doing it as a district means that the 2024 Rotary District 7030 Conference will have as one of its focuses, the topic of mental health.

The 2024 Rotary District 7030 Conference is being held for the first time in St Vincent and Grenadines (SVG) next year. It will run from April 18 to 20, 2024, and will see over 450 Rotarians from District 7030 converge on the island. District 7030 is made up of over 3200 Rotarians from 75 clubs across 17 countries and territories in the Southern Caribbean.

Glasgow said that apart from focusing on mental health issues, the conference is expected to pump over six million Eastern Caribbean (EC) dollars into the local economy.
