Scouts SVG working towards the SDGs and Humanitarian Action

Thirty adult leaders of The Scout Association of St Vincent and the Grenadines (Scouts SVG) were on November 24, part of a training programme by the World Scout Bureau on Humanitarian Action, focusing on preparedness for emergencies and disasters.

Alfredo Musse, staff member of the World Scout Bureau and consultant from the World Organization of the Scout Movement visited Scouts SVG to deliver the training and to hold other business meetings with officials of Scouts SVG.

The training objective was to make leaders aware of their important role in non-formal education, modelling lives of youth in the country through a new set of activities and challenges, part of “Scouts for SDGs” as the commitment Scouts have around the world in protecting the environment while building peace and community engagement.

Scouts SVG leaders also practised the implementation of what they learned with young members during a separate session which was held on Saturday, November 25. Young cubs and scouts were happy and engaged with the learning activities and went home with new ideas on how to be prepared for an emergency and give back to the community.

On Monday, November 27, officials of Scouts SVG visited Governor General and Chief Scout, Dame Susan Dougan and shared with Her Excellency the weekend’s learning experiences and the plans for the association. Scouts SVG was represented by Chief Commissioner Sherron Morgan-Peters, President Kay Martin Jack, and Treasurer Annette Marksman. Alfredo Musse, representing the World Scout Bureau, was also present at the meeting with the Governor General.

The meeting, which lasted for about 45 minutes, was very productive. Dame Susan congratulated the leaders and encouraged them to continue the hard work and to engage more new adult volunteers into Scouting.
