Greiggs women being tried for wounding with intent
Two women, who have been accused of chopping a fellow villager about her face with a cutlass, have been brought before the High Court for trial.
Lesha Johnson and Paige Baptiste, both residents of Greiggs, pleaded not guilty to wounding with intent when they appeared at High Court #2 before Justice Rickie Burnett on Monday, November 27 for their arraignment.
They were initially charged with attempted murder.
The incident, which is being said to have occurred on January 29, 2020 at Greiggs, was allegedly committed against Z’annie Charles, who was 16 years old at the time of the incident.
The trial, which began on Monday, November 27 will see eight witnesses being called to testify.
A nine-member jury will adjudicate the case.
Representing the women are Linton Lewis and his daughter Maffica Lewis while the prosecution will be led by Senior Crown Counsel Richie Maitland and Crown Counsel Maria Jackson-Richardson.
