PRO gives five reasons why SVG needs the NDP

The Public Relations Officer of the New Democratic Party (NDP) has given the nation five reasons why the country is in need of an NDP government.

Lavern King, speaking at the party’s ‘Hope for Youth’ rally at the Campden Park Playing Field, warned the crowd that “not every skin teeth is a smile” and that “the bottom of the Unity Labour Party’s (ULP’s) bucket has fallen right off”.

According to King, the ULP as a party has “a passion for lies”.

“I have a list with me, with all of the promises made by the ULP to the young people of this country that they have not fulfilled.” Unfolding a scroll roughly six feet long, King described it as “a scroll of unfulfilled promises”.

“From the top of this list, the first thing we must acknowledge is that under this ULP government, more and more young people are unemployed…in fact, unemployment is at the highest that it has ever been in the history of our country and this must change.”

Her second reason was crime, reminding listeners that the government has “allowed crime to climb”.

Referring to a comment made recently by Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves, King said, “He have the barefacedness to say that it is us, Vincentian women, who are the cause of crime…that we are high maintenance, what an insult!” She said the best answer to that insult will be to “vote them out”.

Addressing the cost of living in the country, King recognised that there are many young persons in SVG who are trying hard to make ends meet and though many may want to have their own businesses and generate their own income, there aren’t many opportunities to do so.

“It is not our culture to be beggy, beggy and it is for that reason that the NDP is all about empowering our people…it is for reason that Dr Friday has proposed the ‘Innovation Hub’.”

She said that the ‘Innovation Hub’ will be a place where persons can go and bring their business idea to life.

“At the centre, there will be market research officers, business development officials and there will also be a government appointed small and medium sized enterprise personnel who will sit down with you and help you find funding for your business ideas, whether or not that funding comes through grant or through loans that are offered at a minimal interest rate to help you along the way.”

King encouraged listeners be passionate about politics, but also to remember that the party cannot take office with the votes of supporters only, so, “When somebody decides to come from the other side, we must be embracive of them, we must welcome them, we must let them know that this NDP tent is big and we are welcoming them…if you’re on the other side and want to come, now is the time to come because you have realised that St Vincent and the Grenadines is not where it’s supposed to be.”

She pleaded with supporters to refrain from engaging in arguments with ULP supports on social media as the mantra of the NDP is to be embracive and to welcome others.
