Georgetown Secondary School celebrates its 25th Anniversary

Staff and students of the Georgetown Secondary School celebrated the school’s 25th anniversary with a thanksgiving service on Monday, October 30.

The service was originally planned to be held at the Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Georgetown, but was eventually shifted to the school’s auditorium.

Before the start of the service, students and teachers assembled at the old Bishop’s College (Georgetown) building and marched from there to the Georgetown Secondary School.

The Bishop’s College (Georgetown), which was operated by the Anglican church, was the only secondary school in the area and it later became the Georgetown Secondary School.

PRINCIPAL RONALD CLARKE addressing the school at the thanksgiving service

In his address at Monday’s function, Principal Ronald Clarke said it is a grave injustice to judge the school on its CSEC performance alone.

On reflection, he said there was one year in which the school got a class of new students who were unable to read.

However, Clarke noted that after spending five years at the school, the students made tremendous strides and we’re able to obtain passes in CSEC subjects.

“Wear your green and white with pride,” Clarke admonished the students.

Deputy Chief Education Officer Joycelyn Blake Browne also spoke at Monday’s service.

Blake Browne, who once taught at the Georgetown Secondary School, said now is an important time for the school to reflect on its accomplishments over the years.

The educator made a plea to parents to become more involved in their children’s education.

“Parental involvement is vital” the Deputy Chief Education Officer stressed.

Blake Browne congratulated the staff on their silver anniversary.

The Georgetown Secondary School opened its doors to the first batch of students in 1999 with Hilton

Browne as Principal and Kenroy Johnson as Deputy Principal.

Among its many achievements is winning the RBTT Young Leaders title in 2016.
