North Union Secondary School Alumni host reunion
The 2023 reunion of the North Union Secondary School Alumni was celebrated with a week of activities which ran from September 24 to 30.
A release from Kayanna Roberts, secretary of the Alumni Committee said the activities made history as they were the “first ever reunion and not only for themselves but also by being the first school to have ever done something like this within St Vincent and the Grenadines”.
She said: This humongous task was challenged by many different obstacles, with resources being one of them. Nevertheless, with the dedication and the strong mind and willingness of the team, the task was accomplished.”
On Sunday, September 24, a church service was held at the Ebenezer Seventh Day Adventist Church in Colonarie;
on Monday, September
25, a mentorship programme was held at the school; A moonlight hangout was held on Tuesday, September 26 at Black Point, Mt Young;
the following day, there was a picnic / cookout at River 14, South Rivers; Thursday, September
28 was spent in Bequia; while on Friday, September 29, computers were donated to the school, mentorship continued
and in the evening, there was a karaoke event at Colonarie gap.
A gala, held at Spring Gardens Resort was the highlight of the week of activities, apart from the donation to the school, the release said.
At the gala, several teachers were honoured for their commitment and performance over the years. They were Westwick Williams, Frank Jones, Iris Mounsey, Godson Cain, Carmen Caine, Kenroy Johnson, Elford Charles, Danley Herbert (absent), Raymond Clarke (absent) and Susan Cunningham – Ryan (absent).
“This was a moment in time that can never be repeated and the teachers felt the compassion shared as they mingled, photographed and communicated with their students. Among the group was current Principal St Clair DaSantos and Deputy Principal Kwesi Garraway,” the release said.
“Although this reunion may have ended, the journey for The North Union Secondary School Alumni has just begun. During the school visitation several opportunities were identified and the President Mr Moulton Sayers pledged to assist the school in sports and culture and together with the school administration and other stakeholders to improve the overall experience of the students.”
