Nature Care makes donation to enhance Layou boardwalk

SVG continues to demonstrate corporate social responsibility and last week donated three benches and two Neem trees to the Layou community.

Nature Care SVG celebrated its 20th anniversary on October 4, and Gideon Nash, the owner and managing director of the company said the donation is part of his company’s continued community service outreach.

He said there were seven trees on the boardwalk and his company has added two more, along with the benches that are painted in Nature Care’s colours.

“…So when you come to Layou for Christmas and you see lights on the tress, we want Layou to be number one for the Christmas lighting competition and the Independence best village competition.

“We encourage persons to not damage the trees by taking off the leaves. Trees are important in relation to climate change and climate change is caused by cutting down trees, so please help us to retain trees,” Nash told the gathering at the boardwalk on October 4.

District Coordinator of the Layou Police Youth Club Nyron Collis said he is happy that Nature Care is helping with the upkeep of the boardwalk and the beautification of the community, something the Youth Club is involved in.

He said Nature Care is also going to be involved in helping the Youth Club beautify the front of the police station and other activities, including distributing food baskets to the elderly.

Layou Town Warden Leon Jeffers described the donation as a “great gesture” and a good way for Nature Care to celebrate their 20 years in business.

“They love to work with the community and I am so happy they are doing this for us which is a regular spot for a lot of people.

“We hope Nature Care will continue to do this good work in Layou,” Jeffers said.

Nature Care employee Yatongo Phillips said he is responsible for the pruning of all the trees on the boardwalk and he is proud to be part of the Nature Care team and helping the company reach the 20-year mark.

He said he has been with the company for the 20 years and is based in Mustique.

“My boss is a very good boss and I don’t have no regrets. I think these trees should be maintained and I will do it,” he said.

Nash’s mother, Lenno Miller also weighed in on the initiative, noting that she is proud of her son, his community initiatives and the fact that his company has attained 20 years.

“I am proud of my son on reaching this milestone and I ask God’s continued blessing in his business and hope he reaches even higher,” Miller said.

She said her son has love for the community and workers and she always encourages him not to lose focus.

“…And I pray for him and he is a very obedient son,” Miller said, while adding that Nash is the oldest of six children, five boys and one girl.

Miller said her son showed a love for plants from a very young age and would sometimes do grafting and decorating as a boy, something she encouraged.

“He is in this business for 20 years because of manners and respect and honesty. The youngsters should learn to listen to their elders and take a leaf out of my son’s book and they will reach far,” Miller told SEARCHLIGHT.
