Changes being made to 2023 Miss SVG show

The Miss SVG 2023 pageant, slated to come off this Saturday at Victoria Park, will feature nine contestants from across the country with a few changes to this year’s show.

This was revealed by Chairperson of the Beauty Shows Committee, Aviar Charles at an October 3 press conference hosted by the Carnival Development Corporation (CDC).

Charles said the changes include the re-introduction of the Culture Wear segment, changes to judging of the Evening Wear segment as well as an introductory piece by the contestants. The Culture Wear segment as a judged category was introduced in the 2022 pageant, where Jada Ross was crowned winner.

“Last year we focused on different elements of what makes us truly Vincentian but this year calypso lovers I know would love the introduction of this. We are paying homage to the calypso industry, each contestant will wear a costume that represents a local calypsonian’s song.”

Changes are also expected in the Evening Wear segment.

“We are also splitting one of our categories this year – the Best Evening Wear Segment will be split into two categories : Best Evening Wear and Best in Evening Wear. One of the things that we have noticed, we know for a fact that in the past there have been some contestants that may have had the best evening wear but not necessarily carried it best. So we wanted to ensure that we are fair across the board so we split that category. It is still the same 25 points.”

Charles said she believes that the changes to the pageant allow the show to fall more in line with international beauty pageants.

“We are looking at enhancing the Miss SVG show and ensuring that it meets international standards or we are as close as possible to international standards. So when you come this year you will kind of get a Miss Universe type of feeling with the pageant.”

The contestants who will be vying for the Miss SVG crown on Saturday, October 7 are Letiesha Barbour, Miss Grenadine House; Denicia Boatswain, Miss Metrocint General Insurance Limited; Deana Fairbairn , Miss National Lotteries Authority; Arena Foy, Miss Massy Stores Limited; Trina Hooper, Miss Play 4; Nia Laborde,  Miss Flow; Simesha Millington, Coreas ACE Hardware; Tara Richardson, Miss JCI St. Vincent and Royesha Telemaque, Miss Intransit Exports.
