CW Prescod Primary School re-enacts historic occasion

September 11, 2023 marked 34 years since the CW Prescod Primary School (formerly the New Kingstown Primary) opened its doors.

The occasion was not slighted, as current students, staff, parents and others marched from the Kingstown Methodist Church to the school’s location, as was the case back in 1989.

Then, the student population, teachers and others journeyed to their new location, from the then Kingstown Methodist School.

Prior to last Monday’s march through the streets of Kingstown, a commemorative Thanksgiving Church Service was held at the Kingstown Methodist Church.

The well attended service heard brief addresses from several speakers, including present Principal of the CW Prescod Primary School Suzette Abbott- King.

Reflecting on the institution’s sojourn thus far, Abbott-King related, “Over the last 34 years, our school has grown and evolved in many ways… We have seen improvement in the physical structures, new programs introduced, and many new students coming through our doors… However, one thing has remained constant, and that is, our commitment to providing the best possible education for our students”.

Continuing her reflections and assessment, Abbott- King commented, “We work hard to provide a supportive and inclusive environment where everyone can thrive…We have seen the results of our efforts in the success of our students…As we look back on the past years, we can be proud of our achievements…We’ve had some amazing accomplishments in academics, sports, and the arts, and we’ve continued to build a strong community that supports and encourages one another”.

The CW Prescod Primary School as it is now, transitioned from the Wesley Hall Primary School to the Kingstown Methodist School, then the New Kingstown Primary School.

The change to the CW Prescod Primary came in 1991.

Located at Richmond Hill, the CW Prescod Primary was initially built to house the students of the Kingstown Methodist School.

However, a change in government policy resulted in students from Kingstown and its environs who were unsuccessful at the then Common Entrance Examinations being placed at the new institution, thus, establishing a senior section – Grade 7 and 8.

The senior section was discontinued in 2005.
