Musical legends inducted to Vincy Music Hall of Fame
Two musical legends were inducted into the Vincy Music Hall of Fame last weekend during the ‘Vincy Nite’ Extravaganza in Brooklyn, New York.
The band Touch and the late Winston Soso constituted the Class of 2023 of the inaugural event which took place at K&L Manor on Saturday, September 2.
In presenting the award to the band Touch, Consul General of SVG to the United States Rondy McIntosh said in his opinion, Touch is the greatest band to ever come out of St Vincent and the Grenadines.
Touch, which is the only band from St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) to have won seven road marches of which five were consecutive, is this year celebrating its 39th anniversary.
Winston Soso, who died in 2021, was an outstanding sportsman and soca artiste., with several hits to his name. In 1996 he became the first person to win the soca monarch title in St Vincent and the Grenadines. He was made a cultural ambassador in 2014.
Producers and promoters of the show and awards Elmore Christian and Gideon Yorke said ‘Vincy Nite’ in Brooklyn began 35 years ago and the band Touch has been a part of the tradition, performing Vincy Soca over the years on Labour Day Saturday.
The promoters said they are excited to add the Vincy Music Hall of Fame component to the Vincy Nite Extravaganza.
Artistes become eligible for induction into the Vincy Music Hall of Fame 25 years after the release of their first recording. Criteria include influence, significance and contribution, the promoters said in a release.
Touch, Skinny Fabulous, Fireman Hooper and Kemmy headlined Vincy Nite 2023 event.
