Joint police operation yields arrests and seizure of drugs, cash

A joint police operation in Paul’s Avenue last Friday resulted in the arrest of eight persons and seizure of cocaine, cannabis and a quantity of cash.

The operation, which involved the Rapid Response Unit (RRU), the Narcotics Unit and the Special Services Unit (SSU) took place at about 12:30 pm. During the operation, the police searched several persons, houses and businesses, which resulted in the confiscation of 182 rocks (36 g) of cocaine, a quantity of cannabis and US$448, EC$2270 and BDS$20.

A release from the Royal St Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force (RSVGPF) said as a result of the seizures, two suspects were charged.

Lemar “Chak” Isaacs, a 21-year-old unemployed man of Mc Kie’s Hill was charged with possession of eight grammes of cocaine with intent to supply it to another; and Dimron Mc Donald, a 33-year-old self-employed man of New Montrose was charged with possession of 18 g of cocaine with intent to supply it to another.

The six other persons were discharged pending further investigations.

Both men appeared before the Kingstown Magistrat’se Court on Monday, August 28 and pleaded guilty to the respective charges. McDonald was fined EC$636 forthwith or two months in prison, while Isaacs was fined $273 forthwith or one month in prison.

The Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) has opened an investigation into the money that was confiscated.

These operations are part of the RSVGPF’s strategic plan to combat illegal activities throughout St Vincent and the Grenadines, the release from the RSVGPF said.
