Police receiving outside help following deadly mass shooting in Kingstown

Members of the Royal St Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force (RSVGPF) have been getting “outside support” in trying to restore peace and tranquillity following a deadly mass shooting in Kingstown on the night of Wednesday, July 19.

At about 8:00 p.m on that date, five men lost their lives after being shot up by hooded gunmen in the area of Harbour Club.

The sounds of high powered guns and the blood stains on the road in Harbour Club caused many Vincentians to worry and openly express concern about the crime situation in the State.

Speaking on NBC radio on Wednesday, Acting Prime Minister Montgomery Daniel, sought to give the nation some reassurance that the police are not treating that mass shooting lightly.

He said that the police “have been having outside support coming into the country to assist them in their work.”

Minister Daniel said the shooting death of five persons in a single incident was unprecedented and it prompted a meeting of Cabinet with the police high command.

The Acting Prime Minister further assured that a number of measures have been put in place to ensure the safety of the general public.

While not giving details about the measures, Minister Daniel stressed

“We need the support of the public as well in these matters.”

Speaking of the need to restore confidence, Daniel said “the tourism industry needs that level of confidence, all of us need that level of confidence”.

He noted that the Police Commissioner has promised to ensure the restoration of confidence and law and order for which all Vincentians can be proud.
