Break-in at vlogger’s apartment during Vincy Mas will not prevent her returning to SVG

Over 11,000 followers on Instagram and 143,000 on TikTok have been made aware of an international travel vlogger’s harrowing experience with a home burglary in St Vincent and the Grenadines this week.

UK resident, Zoe Reeve, who operates under the social media handle, Travel with Zoe, shared the details of the July, 25, break-in at her Lodge Village apartment.

She explained in a Tik Tok post that she was woken out of her sleep by a loud banging outside the apartment door sometime after 11:00 p.m.

Reeve said she remained inside the bedroom of the apartment with the door locked, and sent messages to her local contacts asking for help.

One of the contacts responded and alerted the police who then went to the vlogger’s apartment where they discovered broken wares and a stolen television.

The incident came just days before Reeve left the state on July, 27, to head to Grenada and forced her to leave the accommodation prematurely where she opted to stay with friends.

The incident, no doubt, sheds a negative light on the safety of the country and, considering the size of Reeve’s social media following, will necessitate action on the part of the local tourism officials.

SEARCHLIGHT reached out to representatives of the SVG Tourism Authority who confirmed that officials, including the Minister of Tourism, Carlos James, had been in contact with Reeve after the incident.

In a radio interview with Hot 97.1, she confirmed that she had been offered alternative accommodation, however, she declined and opted instead to complete her stay on the island with friends.

Reeve’s posts from SVG began in early July and features visits to popular attractions including Dark View Falls, the Vermont Nature Trail, and La Soufriere Volcano. During her stay she also participated in Vincy Mas events including Soca Monarch, Mardi Gras as well as private events.

In subsequent social media posts, Reeve admitted that the break-in had left her traumatized and unable to sleep. However, she revealed that the incident has not tainted her view of SVG and she intends to return, adding that she understands that crime is prevalent in most countries.

“I know that scary things happen all over the world … I found the carnival was really special and I had such a great time. I really want to come back again for Vincy Mas.”
