Daniel Cummings promises equity in health care under NDP

West Kingstown Parliamentary Representative for the New Democratic Party (NDP) Daniel Cummings has called on all supporters to encourage each other to vote in the General Elections to wipe the Unity Labour Party (ULP) out and install the NDP in office.

Cummings made this appeal on Saturday, May 15, at the NDP’s Hope Rally which saw massive numbers of supporters congregate at Seaview Garden in Georgetown.

Cummings told the gathering that he did not go to the event to talk about over 20 years of dreadful healthcare that they have received, or the inconvenience of having to scramble to find money for blood tests, or having to move their loved ones out of the hospital, but rather, he went there with a mission of hope that the New Democratic Party led by Godwin Friday, has a new main approach to dealing with health care.

“I want to tell you that there is good hope for a proper healthcare facility with proper equipment and a mechanism for maintaining those equipment. I’ve come to tell you that you will find training and development for the doctors and nurses, all those hard working people and all the staff involved in healthcare, under NDP,” said the party’s shadow spokesperson on health.

Cummings further said that every person will be treated as if they were a relative of Dr Friday and will be given the same quality healthcare under Friday’s government, adding that he is a man with a vision, a passion and a heart for the people of St Vincent and the Grenadines.

“… I want to tell you, we need a healthcare system in this country that offers equality to every single citizen of this country and we in the New Democratic Party promise you that you will see installation of a proper health system, a proper national health insurance system that will guarantee you a certain level of health care even if you’re not working.”

Cummings also said that there will be the implementation of a proper health information system in SVG so that when one goes to a doctor, by the punch of a button, all information about that patient can be sourced and therefore provide better service.

“You will see that non-communicable diseases in this country under Dr. Friday’s administration will go down. Let me point one simple example: as a mother, as a father, you have the tremendous stress that you feel in giving your child food and sending them to school, Dr. Friday’s NDP government will create more employment opportunities; he will make sure that you don’t have to find money to pay for the exams for your children.”

Cummings said that an NDP administration will make sure that every person who has lost their job due to the COVID-19 will be reinstated, adding that by reducing the stress level in the country’s population, there will be a significant decrease in the level of non- communicable diseases.

“So my dear people I want you to understand when we talk about hope, we are real, we have been preparing for this for a long time. As I look upon the sea of wonderful people here tonight, I thank you for coming out but I charge you to understand this important point. Give me one solemn promise that as every child approaches their teen years, you will make sure they get registered, that you will make sure that all your neighbours understand how important this election is, and when the time comes, you will wipe them out and install the New Democratic Party in the governance of this country.”
