Half-century passed since Cecil Rawl murder

Yesterday, May 11, marked a full half-century since St Vincent and the Grenadines was thrown into shock by the deadly shooting of Attorney General Cecil Rawle, a prominent Dominican citizen. He died from his wounds two days later.

Rawle’s murder caused shock waves not just in SVG but throughout the Eastern and Southern Caribbean with a high-profile murder hunt for the accused which lasted just over two weeks and obtained the assistance of the security forces in Trinidad and Tobago. Two of the accused, Junior “Spirit” Cottle and Loraine “Blackie” Laidlow were later arrested, charged, convicted and sentenced for Rawle’s murder while a third accused, Marcus James, was found dead, believed to have been killed during the murder hunt.
