Taiwan donates medical supplies to SVG

The Government of Taiwan has donated a quantity of medical supplies to the Ministry of Health.

The items, provided by a private foundation include 120 wheelchairs for adults, 25 wheelchairs for children, 80 walkers, and 40 commode chairs, as well as 200 canes.

Minister of Health St Clair Prince, said the donation, which was handed over on April 6, will go a long way in helping those who are living with the effects of chronic Non-communicable Diseases (NCDs), especially diabetes, and assist some of the most vulnerable, especially amputees.

“I am very grateful to the foundation…these wheelchairs no doubt will go a long way in our rehabilitative effort with respect…to amputations…these wheelchairs will come in very handy in that regard…

“I think persons who have had amputations of the lower limbs will be now using some of these wheelchairs as they leave the hospital…,” Prince remarked.

Ambassador of the Republic of China on Taiwan, Peter Sha-Li Lan said the donations were made through a well-known Taiwanese benefactor and his foundation, and he hopes this is the beginning of further co-operation between the foundation and the Ministry of Health.

“We hope this batch of donations…will greatly assist Vincentians who are in great need,” the Ambassador said.

The handing over took place at the conference room of the Ministry of Health. Two weeks ago, the government of Taiwan made a donation of $240 thousand worth of emergency medical supplies to St. Vincent and the Grenadines. (API)
