Send Shevern John to Parliament at next General Elections – Dr Friday
Leader of the Opposition, Dr Godwin Friday has made a call to the people of North Windward to vote in the next General Elections for Shevern John, the candidate for the New Democratic Party (NDP).
John, who is a NDP Senator, contested the seat for the party in the 2020 general elections, but was defeated by Deputy Leader of the Unity Labour Party (ULP), Montgomery Daniel.
Dr Friday made the call while addressing party supporters at a political meeting at Langley Park in Georgetown on Tuesday night, March 28.
During his address the NDP leader called Senator John to the podium and appealed to the people of North Windward to “ send Shevern John to the Parliament as the elected representative, and to my cabinet, when we form the next government”.
Friday also made a promise that Senator John’s interests and concerns “will be my interests and my concerns, as your next prime minister.”
“When you change government, it is not just so that I could change my title.
“We are changing the government, so that we could change the country,” Friday added.
“I want to be able to transform the lives of the people, working with the people to do so.”
He said under the previous NDP administration the economy grew by 5% annually.
“That means that the lives of the people improved every single year.”
He said that under the present administration, economic growth is on the decline.
“This is why things are so hard for people throughout the country.”
Dr Friday said there is now more poverty and unemployment.
“Ask yourself how is it that we have a big airport, and things so hard?
“We have a fishing complex up in Owia and things so hard?
“When you acknowledge that this is the reality in our country, then you have an obligation to look for something better,” he challenged party supporters.
“This is what we are offering in the New Democratic Party.”
During Tuesday’s political meeting, the NDP Leader also put forward four pillars upon which they will develop the economy of St Vincent and the Grenadines.
These are: agriculture; the blue economy; tourism; and developing arts and culture.
