East Caribbean Feeds holds first town hall meeting in Barbados
East Caribbean Feeds, a unit of the East Caribbean Group of Companies (ECGC), held its inaugural farm management town hall meeting in Barbados on March, 12, attended by close to 50 livestock farmers. Those attending were provided with information on a range of issues including livestock management, animal nutrition, and on-farm best management practices from Veterinarian and expert Technical Product Manager at ECGC, Dr. Tahomma Richards, a release from the company states.
The education focussed meeting by East Caribbean Feeds was also intended to have those involved engage in discussions on practical and easy ways of implementing biosecurity guidelines. The veterinarian discussed the importance of dedicated farm clothing and shoes as well as constant sanitizing, washing of hands and feet which are effective in limiting the transmission of diseases.
Dr. Richards further advised farmers on ensuring best practices related to animal feeds and water.
East Caribbean Feeds manufactures more than 26 different types of feeds for animals such broilers, layers, pigs and ruminants, including the Black Belly Sheep, horses and rabbits.
Farmers were gifted items including farm aprons, raincoats and feeds from the company which has plans to continue to host such sessions this year as part of their mission to support the development of livestock farmers and food sustainability across the OECS and wider Caribbean.
