38 more Vincentian trainees leave for Sandals Resort in Turks and Caicos
Another batch, comprising 38 persons, left the shores of St.Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) on Wednesday, January 11, 2023 bound for the Turks and Caicos Islands to undergo training at the Beaches Sandals Resort there.
This group is the latest cohort of 500 Vincentians targetted by the international chain for training in preparation for the opening of the Sandals resort at Buccament Bay.
The group, which left the Argyle International Airport (AIA) on a chartered flight, hail from various backgrounds and communities across SVG.
Sandals Managing Director, Winston Anderson, told the trainees via zoom: “I urge you, when you get there to seize the opportunities, because there will be many opportunities that will present [themselves] to you for training, exposure to other departments and to continue your growth and development.”
Minister of Tourism, Carlos James, also speaking at the brief departure ceremony, said “We have quality Vincentians who are able to rise to the occasion, and deliver on the experience and their expertise, and show the rest of the world what Vincentian hospitality is all about.
“You, as the new recipients of the training programme…have the ability and the potential to do that, and you are an ambassador for this country.”
As part of the programme to train and enhance the level of skill sets within the local tourism and hospitality sector, Sandals and the Government of St Vincent and the Grenadines agreed to an initiative just over a year ago to facilitate the training of 500 Vincentians.
The trainees would be sent to various Sandals and Beaches facilities across the Caribbean for training, which will also result in the enhancement of the skillsets of those who have already been involved in the service industry in SVG.
