UWI Open Campus to be rebranded The Global Campus

The UWI Open Campus is being rebranded and will soon be known as the Global Campus.

This decision was taken on Monday November 28, during a meeting of the UWI’s University Council.

Prime Minister, Dr Ralph Gonsalves who is also the minister responsible for post secondary/tertiary education, attended the meeting virtually and gave a briefing when he spoke on NBC radio on Wednesday, November 30.

He said the University Council is the highest decision making body of The University of the West Indies (UWI) and the decision was taken on Monday to rebrand the Open Campus and transform it into the Global Campus.

In addition to the rebranding, plans are also in place to launch the International School for Development Justice. Gonsalves explained that this institution will deal with issues such as climate change and the sustainable development goals, and will cater for graduate degree programmes and also short certificate courses.

The University Council is now in the process of establishing a steering committee to guide this process forward.

“This fits in very well with the way we are advancing our post secondary and tertiary education,” the Prime Minister commented.

He said at present there are over 800 Vincentian students pursuing degrees at The UWI Open Campus.
