St Vincent Brewery Ltd launches ‘Guinness Smooth’
For the first time in over 50 years, Guinness as a brand, has reinvented a new product in the Guinness Smooth drink, which contains 5% alcohol, compared to the 7.5% in a regular pint of Guinness.
This was revealed when the St Vincent Brewery Ltd, on Wednesday, November 16, launched its Guinness Smooth at the Status Night Club in Arnos Vale.
Speaking at the launch, Plant Manager Colin Huskinson, described Guinness Smooth as “something absolutely special…tastes like a smoothie. The first thing you’re going to notice is that if you’re against rigour, it has all of the characteristics of a Guinness, but there’s an extra smoothness on top of it.
“ Now, flavour-wise, it’s a chocolatey sweet flavour. So there’s a perfect balance of bitter and sweet, and there are background hints of a roast character.
”
Also speaking at the launch was Country Head of St Vincent Brewery Ltd, Shafia London who, explaining the reasoning behind the introduction of the new drink said as a business they recognized the need for, and embraced the required change in order to remain competitive.
She said failure to recognize and embrace change “is a fatal mistake that many brands, many businesses make all around the world”.
“ I am so happy today because we are not making that mistake as a company. We continuously evolve. We continue to grow. We continue to meet the demands of our consumers and our consumers have been asking for more.”
London told the audience that the St Vincent Brewery Ltd, is “sending a message in a very strong way, or the one that we should all learn from…that in times of uncertainty, we need to evolve, we need to change and we need to adapt, we can’t continue doing things the same old way.”
She added that “There is a new category of consumers that is looking for something more. They want the boldness, but they want the boldness with a little bit more charisma, and so we are presenting a product that fits that desire, a product that appeals to both males and females, and appeals to all age groups.”
The uncapping of the new beverage, Guinness Smooth by top officials of the St Vincent Brewery Ltd, then took place, after which guests were introduced to sample the new drink at a reception held at the same venue.
