Government seeking to obtain pre-fab houses from Guyana
GOVERNMENT is exploring the possibility of getting pre- fabricated houses from Guyana to help with the rebuilding the housing stock damaged as a result of last year’s volcanic eruptions.
To the end, Deputy Prime Minister Montgomery Daniel left the state yesterday, Thursday, October 20 as head of a delegation to Guyana, to further examine the issue including having discussions on pricing.
The delegation to Guyana also includes Minister of Housing, Orando Brewster and an engineer from that ministry along with an engineer attached to the Roads, Buildings and General Services Authority (BRAGSA).
Prime Minister, Dr Ralph Gonsalves told listeners to NBC radio on Wednesday, October 19 that he has already held discussions with Guyana’s President, Irfaan Ali.
He said these discussions relate to the purchase of pre-fabricated green heart houses.
Dr Gonsalves said the one, two, and three the bedroom houses will also have kitchen and toilet facilities.
These houses from Guyana will hopefully speed up the rebuilding process in the aftermath of last year’s eruptions of La Soufriere volcano.
Government was also seeking to obtain 150 prefabricated houses from Venezuela.
However Gonsalves explained that the company through which Venezuela was getting the houses is experiencing a capacity problem.
Minister Daniel and his team are expected to return home on Sunday.
Prime Minister Gonsalves is also out of state and Minister of Agriculture, Saboto Caesar is the Acting Prime Minister.
