Ministry of Agriculture hands over tractors to schools and a farmers’ cooperative
The Ministry of Agriculture has handed over a hand tractor valued at EC$4,500 to the Bishops College for use in its Agricultural Science programme.
The tractor was handed over on Thursday, October 20 by Minister of Agriculture, Saboto Caesar who used the occasion to urge the students to eat more locally grown foods and so contribute to reducing the food import bill, a release from the ministry’s communication unit states.
Forty hand tractors will be handed over today, October 21 to the Farmers Producers Cooperative and farm workers; the Adelphi Secondary School; North Union Secondary School and the Liberty Lodge Boys Training Centre.
These tractors are being provide under the first phase of the Agriculture Mechanization Programme.
The Technical Division of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Community College has already received support.
Minister Caesar said during the second phase of the programme, all secondary schools with an Agriculture Programme will receive hand tractors.
He said it is critical to provide the next generation of farmers with the technology to boost agricultural production in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
