DCash is back and in high gear

THE DIGITAL VERSION of the EC dollar, DCash, has kicked back into high gear after facing teething challenges after its first launch. The application allows persons to use their phones to make purchases and do some other transactions.

At the re-launch of the service last Friday, September 31, Managing Director of Professional and Consultancy Services (PSCS), Camille Crichton told SEARCHLIGHT that the service is “Rebuilding SVG one digital payment at a time.”

DCash was first launched in St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) on August 12, 2021.

Crichton told SEARCHLIGHT while DCash is an Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) product, it is not replacing the EC dollar but rather, complementing it.

Persons can download the app from Google Play or Apple Store on their digital android or IOS devices.

Crichton explained that DCash is very simple, easy to use and secure. It can it be used in SVG and all other Eastern Caribbean Currency Union Member Territories by persons receiving and sending money abroad.

Likewise, “if you have locals that live in Canada or the United States, once they have an EC bank account they can transfer funds from wherever they are to their relatives and friends in any of the Eastern Caribbean territories,” Crichton said.

She said another advantage of using DCash is that “you can be at home, especially if you are in the Grenadines and you need to order food supplies from St Vincent you can DCash the money directly to CK Greaves or Bonadie or one of the other merchants and you can make arrangements for supplies to come down on the boat for you … also, you wouldn’t have to stand up in long lines any more, you can DCash your money to any of the merchants.”

Crichton explained that using DCash is free, and persons will not have to pay any fees or hidden charges.

“There are no fees attached meaning, if you use your debit card at certain places you may be charged a percentage of what you are paying but with DCash no fees are charged,” she said.

She is appealing to the public to sign up for DCash because it is very simple, easy to download and secure and “if you leave home without your wallet you don’t have to worry because once you have your phone and have the DCash app, you have no worries because you have digital money.”

She added that, “if you lose your phone you don’t lose your digital wallet because your wallet is secured with a password and if you use your digital wallet you automatically sign out after a few minutes.”
