Government to demolish former homes of new Orange Hill settlers
Acting Prime Minister, Montgomery Daniel says Government will soon be moving to demolish the former homes of persons who now occupy 27 new houses at Orange Hill.
The houses at Orange Hill were constructed for families whose homes were destroyed during the 2021 volcanic eruptions.
At a ceremony on September 1, new homes constructed at Orange Hill were presented to 27 families.
Speaking on NBC Radio on Wednesday, September 21 Daniel, who is the minister with responsibility for housing said the families are settling “quite well” in their new homes.
He said the residents were afforded the opportunity to remove anything from their old homes that might be of value to them.
“In the next couple of weeks, the government is going to demolish the houses,” Daniel stated.
“We want to make sure that we work with you to make your lives better.”
Daniel also cautioned the new home owners that they will not be able to resettle in their former locations, which the government will try to make more attractive.
