Sandy Bay accident a great loss to Clare Valley – Glasgow

THE UNITY LABOUR Party’s caretaker for the South Leeward constituency, Mineva Glasgow has said that the accident in Sandy Bay on Sunday September 11, has resulted in “a great loss” to the village of Clare Valley.

Five young men from Clare Valley died tragically on Sunday,September 11 when the omnibus in which they were travelling ran off the road while driving down a steep hill at Old Sandy Bay.

The victims have been identified as: Giovanni Barker, Elvis Harold, Khalil Robin, Ishmael Bruce and Kenny Haywood.

They were among passengers in omnibus H8190 which was travelling from Clare Valley to a funeral in Owia.

Glasgow told SEARCHLIGHT on Monday morning she knows that it cannot be easy for any of the families at this time.

She expressed particular concern about one family which lost two of it’s members in Sunday’s accident.

Glasgow related that apart from the two deaths on Sunday,that family is still grieving for another family member who died last July.

“My heart is really pained, and I am deeply saddened by this sudden loss of life,” she said.

“I was like in a daze when I first heard the news,” Glasgow recalled.

Glasgow said God is the only source of comfort for those who are mourning at this time.

On Monday morning, Glasgow also used her Facebook page to extend condolences to the bereaved families in Clare Valley.

“As caretaker of the SL (South Leeward) Constituency, I extend heart felt condolences to the relatives of the 5 persons who died in that tragic accident yesterday,” she said in the post.

Glasgow who was the ULP’S candidate for the area in the 2020 General Elections also empathized with those who were injured in Sunday’s accident. The former Deputy Director of the National Insurance Service (NIS), said there was great sorrow in Clare Valley at this time.
