Owia residents hold candlelight vigil for slain fellow villager
The usual lively atmosphere in Owia was transformed to one of pain and mourning as villagers walked through the streets of this northern community in a candle light vigil for slain fellow villager, Rohan ‘Charla’ Rawlins.
Rawlins who was also called ‘Papers’, was shot and killed on Monday, August 7.
The shooting took place in the new community at Lowmans Bay where residents of Rose Place were relocated earlier this year. The residents refer to the community as New Rose Place.
Rawlins was reportedly sitting in the porch of Yashima ‘Diver’ Fitzpatrick’s home when he was shot and killed in broad daylight.
Fitzpatrick said that he did not know Rawlins.
On Tuesday night August 23, persons in Owia turned out and showed just how much they loved Rawlins; many continue to express condolences to the family.
Although originally from Greiggs, the fisherman/farmer had lived in Owia for a number of years.
Residents in the area said he was well known and well loved.
Police are continuing their investigations into the killing.
