TSSS graduating students commend love and care of retired principal
ONE YEAR after he officially retired as principal of the Thomas Saunders Secondary School (TSS), John Renton came in for high praise from the graduating class of 2022. Delivering the 2022 Valedictorian address at the graduation ceremony on Tuesday, June 28 at the Kingstown Baptist Church, Mya Jack told the assembled students, parents, teachers, and other invited guests in speaking of Renton that he: “ran this school with great love and care.”
Renton served as principal of the Thomas Saunders Secondary School from 2008 until his retirement in 2021. He was principal at the time when the students who graduated this year first entered the doors of the institution.
Speaking directly to Renton who sat in the audience, Jack said that he “patrolled the corridors regularly to inspect our classes and you taught us sometimes too. I think we could all say though you were the principal, you were a very jovial, really down to earth and an approachable individual.”
The valedictorian assured that “We missed and cherished those many fun moments we had with you. Sometimes you were not afraid to show us your exhilarating dance moves to the music when we had certain school events.”
Jack was however confident in the ability of the new principal to connect with her charges.
“…I am certain that our new principal Ms. Elspeth Adams would advance and improve the foundation that you have already established here at Thomas Saunders Secondary School and continue to do so with success.”
The graduating class of 2022 comprised 17 students from Form 5 Arts taught by Anya St. Jean; 13 students from Form 5 Science also taught by St.
Jean. Form 5 Business had 26 students taught by La Rissa John; Form 5 General had 30 students taught by Reynold Francis; while Form 5 Technical had 23 students who were taught by Omal Pitt. A total of 109 students made up the Thomas Saunders Graduating Class of 2022. Eight of those students were not present at the graduation ceremony.
