VincyCares donates school supplies in the Red and Orange zones

A small delegation of VincyCares Directors recently journeyed to schools on both the Leeward and Windward sides to deliver school supplies and Covid related items to the secondary schools most affected by the eruption of La Soufriere Volcano in April 2021.

The supplies were donated to VincyCares by businesses and individuals in the Diaspora (US and Canada), in response to the Volcano Eruption Relief effort.
The recipients included Sandy Bay Secondary, Georgetown Secondary, North Union Secondary, New Adelphi Secondary, George Stephens Secondary, Barrouallie Secondary, Troumaca Ontario Secondary, and Petit Bordel Secondary.

Principals, staff and students expressed sincere gratitude and noted how timely the supplies were, since the students were preparing to take end of year exams.

“Thank you for your generous donations, I can assure you that the gifts we received will be well used” stated Mr. Ronald Clark, principal of Georgetown Secondary School, “they will benefit the students directly, as well as aid the teachers in doing their jobs.”

In addition, the organization distributed bags containing supplies for the teachers at various primary and secondary schools along the journey, including the School for Children With Special Needs, located in Kingstown.

VincyCares is a non-profit organization based in NY, whose goal is to provide an avenue whereby children in St. Vincent and the Grenadines will be able to obtain an education without having to worry about the finances. The organization does this mainly through scholarships and school supplies donations from individuals in the Diaspora.

VincyCares donated the first scholarship in 2010, and currently manages a total of 34 active scholarships to both secondary and tertiary school students.

The school supplies were presented by VincyCares Directors Dahlia-ann Howard-Lewis, Marcia Kirton-Caesar, and Franklyn Edwards.

“VincyCares will continue to stay focused on the education of the children of our nation”, says President, Gillian Arthur, “we are eternally grateful to our scholarship donors and supporters for their generosity and continued support.”
