Revenue for February down compared with previous years
THE MONTH of February 2022 has seen a decline in revenue collected by the government of St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG).
Disclosure of this was made by prime minister, Dr Ralph Gonsalves as he spoke on NBC Radio’s Face to Face Program on Wednesday, March 16.
The Prime Minister told listeners that on Tuesday he received a summary of the fiscal operations for the period ending February 28.
Gonsalves had reported in an earlier programme that January this year was better than January 2021; but the same cannot be said for February, 2022.
In the month under review, the prime minister indicated that “we didn’t do as well as 2021 nor 2020.”
He explained that in relation to 2021, “we are about $10 million down, between current revenue for last year and this year.”
The revenue for the month of February this year was $86.8 million, while the previous year, the figure was $96.9 million. Gonsalves said for February this year “we are essentially $21 million below February last year.”
Noting that this is a significant number, the prime minister spoke of plans to meet with finance minister, Camillo Gonsalves and his team to sift through the figures.
While this is yet to be done, the prime minister reflected that “the numbers are down, February to February.”
