The year 2021 to be declared the year of the domestic worker – PM Gonsalves

The year 2021 will be proclaimed the year of the “oft forgotten casual and domestic worker”, Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves has noted.

Speaking at the annual Independence Day Parade on Tuesday, October 27 at the Victoria Park, the Prime Minister made a series of announcements.

One of these was that “A full program has been devised by my Government to assist in protecting and uplifting another important but oft forgotten group – Domestic employees in households.”

“These employees, mainly women, deserve our full support in every material particular, legal and otherwise,” he continued.

Therefore, he indicated that the year 2021, “will be proclaimed by my Government as the year of the oft forgotten casual and domestic worker.”

The other “oft forgotten group” that may possibly receive benefits in 2021, are the casual, temporary or part-time, non-unionized workers across the central government who were announced to be receiving up to a further 25 per cent increase on their wages from January 1, 2021.
