Don’t let your guard down as it relates to Covid-19 – Cummings

Daniel Cummings, the New Democratic Party’s (NDP) spokesperson on health is asking Vincentians to not let their guard down as it relates to the coronavirus.

Speaking over the weekend at the opening of the party’s West St George constituency office, Cummings said that after the General Elections in Trinidad and Tobago (T&T), that country saw a spike in COVID-19 cases.

“Because during the election people let their guard down,” Cummings told the gathering.

As Vincentians prepare to go to the polls on November 5, there are currently no known active cases of COVID-19 in the country.

“People of St Vincent, my NDP people and friends, I want you to understand that the coronavirus is not over. Because they are not testing many people, we can’t say we don’t have it among us,” said Cummings.

As at October 12, according to the SVG Coronavirus Report, 5621 people had been PCR-tested for COVID-19.

And a ministry of health official told SEACHLIGHT yesterday that an additional 2125 people had been given rapid tests.

“In this kind of environment you don’t know who is breathing in your face. We have people from all walks of life, we are gathered, we are celebrating, we must be cautious,” Cummings stressed while urging persons to wear their masks at every function they attend.

The West Kingstown candidate said persons must be responsible and protect themselves and others.

“Do not treat this as a light matter. Don’t follow those jokers who believe that they hard fuh dead. That is not something that we can boast about. None of us control the amount of time we have on earth, but we can certainly act in a manner that can help us live longer and better,” Cummings said, while wearing his mask on his chin.

The NDP’s health spokesman also encouraged persons to practice social distancing.
