Public to be educated on COVID-19 general elections protocols soon – Sir Louis

CITIZENS of St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) will soon be educated on COVID-19 protocols that are to be implemented for the General Elections slated for November 5.

Deputy Prime Minister, Sir Louis Straker told Parliament last Thursday, October 8 that protocols will be implemented by the Office of the Supervisor of Elections in conjunction with the Health Services Committee of the National Emergency Management Organisation (NEMO).

“This is a committee specified in the NEMO Act and has representatives from various ministries. I have been advised that the supervisor of elections and the health services committee will, at an appropriate stage, engage the political parties and the national monitoring and consultative mechanism in discussions on this matter,” Straker said, while answering to a question posed by Senator Israel Bruce.

He was responding on behalf of Prime Minister, Dr Ralph Gonsalves, who was absent from the proceedings, last Thursday being the

final day of his quarantine, he having recently returned from the United States.

Straker said the Office of the Supervisor of Elections and the Health Services Committee will conduct public education on this matter. However, he did not indicate when this process would begin.
