Brewster confident that the Central Leeward seat has been secured for upcoming election

Confident that he will bring home the Central Leeward seat for the Unity Labour Party (ULP) in the upcoming general elections, Orande Brewster is already focused on fixing issues in his home community.

He has not yet been formally selected as the ULP’s candidate for Central Leeward; a process he hopes will be completed by the end of this month.

“I want to make sure before the selection process that I highlight a number of things we have to work on,” he told SEARCHLIGHT on Tuesday.

He was speaking at Cabinet Room, shortly after a meeting between several young people from the Central Leeward town of Layou and Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves.

Brewster said all the issues cannot be fixed overnight, but once problems are highlighted, it is only a matter of time before fixes are implemented.

“I am happy that they (the youths) came out and their voices were heard, and I am going to work with them,” Brewster said.

He said it is a fact that when youths are involved, the home is most likely involved as well.

“With youths, you are affecting a home and automatically in that home, there is a family here, so if we can start with the youths, we know we are bringing change to a home and to a family,” Brewster said.

Brewster boasted of being grounded in the constituency.

“I know most of these youths and once they are given a chance, they will make a positive impact,” he said.

Brewster is expected to come up against the New Democratic Party’s (NDP) Benjamin Exeter in the next General Elections constitutionally due by March 2021.

Exeter was defeated by the ULP’s Sir Louis Straker who received 2497 votes to Exeter’s 2184.

In relation to the upcoming elections, Brewster said, “I am not fearful. By the grace of God…I have been a leader in my community and constituency and a voice for persons who are coming from a poor and marginalized family, because I hail from a similar background.

“I have been on the ground in Central Leeward all of my life, except for a few years which I spent abroad doing some studies.”

Brewster says he knows Central Leeward well.

“I know what Central Leeward was, what it is today, and I know the potential Central Leeward has. I am not fearful.

“I am pretty confident that Central Leeward will elect someone that is a true leader, not only a true leader, but a leader they can trust, a young man from humble beginnings, honest, transparent, a man with integrity, and these are qualities the people are looking for and come next election I will deliver and take home that seat,” Brewster stated confidently.
