Vincy wins the Royal Navy chef of the year award
Alexis Jones, a Vincentian national, is the first person from the Commonwealth to win the Royal Navy Senior Chef of the Year award.
Leading Chef Jones won the award from among hundreds of chefs in the Royal Navy. He was named top chef by the historic livery company responsible for the trade, the Worshipful Company of Cooks.
Jones has been a chef in the Navy since 2002, and last year, he was selected as one of the Senior Service’s participants in the Forces’ 2018 annual catering championship, Joint Caterer.
He was just pipped to the title of overall Senior Chef of the Year, however his exceptional performance caught the eye of the Worshipful Company who’ve now named him Senior Chef of the Year.
“My passion for cooking developed from watching my mum in the kitchen and, of course, I enjoyed her tasty dishes,” Jones told a Navy publication recently.
“The only requirements for success are hard work, dedication, motivation, support and love,” he said.
He is hoping to one day return to SVG to share his experience and knowledge with young chefs, particularly those with learning difficulties or poor academic results, to help them realise their full potential.
He is currently serving at NATO’s SHAPE headquarters near Mons in Belgium.
