‘Penny Bank’ invests in Norma Keizer scholar

The St Vincent Co-Operative Bank’s most recent investment in Vincentian youth has come in the form of a bank account with a $500 deposit for Giovanni Slack, the first male recipient of a secondary school scholarship from the Norma Keizer Scholarship Foundation.

The “Penny Bank” opened a Penny Savers Account with the cash deposit for Slack on January 18, 2019.

But Ronnette Murphy, senior customer service representative and Melissa Bailey, senior loans officer officially handed over the account to Slack in a short presentation on Tuesday, February 26, in the presence of his mother, Deyon Nanton and Clare Keizer, the secretary of the Norma Keizer Scholarship Foundation.

“Investing in our young people allows us to invest in their long-term stability and we are committed to helping our youths start saving early in life,” a release from the Bank on the presentation said. “Our youths are our future leaders and investing in them is an investment for the future.”

The release also said that the Bank continues to give back to the community through the Penny Savers Account by making significant contributions that encourage youths to start saving at an early age.

Slack is currently a fourth form student at the St Vincent Grammar School.

Keizer, at Tuesday’s presentation said that the Foundation recognised Slack’s potential and to date, the young scholar has never disappointed as he remains at the top of his class.

She thanked the Bank for partnering with the NKSF and supporting young and outstanding scholars like Slack. And Keizer encouraged others to partner with the Foundation.
