Vincentian appointed Marketing and Communications Manager of UWI Open Campus

The University of the West Indies Open Campus has appointed a new Manager to lead its Marketing and Communications team.

Cleveland Sam, a national of St Vincent and the Grenadines joined the Open Campus team effective Wednesday, January 2, 2019. A career communications professional with over 20 years of experience, Sam will lead the Open Campus’ new marketing and communication strategy throughout the region and internationally.

He brings to the Open Campus more than 15 years of experience in the regional education sector, as Public Relations Manager of the Barbados-based Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC).

Sam began his communications career as Public Relations and Education Officer with the British Virgin Islands National Parks Trust in Tortola in 1996, and subsequently worked as Communications Consultant with the Public Sector Development Programme of the BVI Government before joining the Caribbean Examinations Council.

Cleveland holds a Master of Arts in Journalism Studies (Distinction) from Cardiff University, Wales, and Diplomas in Mass Communication (UWI) and Public Relations (Holborn College). He also has certificates in Stakeholder Relationship Management from University of Pretoria, South Africa, and Copy Editing from University of California at Berkeley Extension Programme.

He is also currently enrolled in The UWI Open Campus EdD in Higher Education Leadership programme. In welcoming Mr Sam to The UWI and the Open Campus specifically, Principal and Pro-Vice Chancellor of the Open Campus Dr. Luz Longsworth stated “We are excited to have the benefit of Mr Sam’s expertise and experience added to the Open Campus leadership team. We have no doubt that he will bring innovative and fresh ideas to the table as we work towards positioning the Open Campus even more strategically within the higher education landscape of our region and beyond.”

Sam will be physically based in Barbados at the Open Campus’ Principal’s Office, Open Learning Centre, Cave Hill.
