SVGCC Mandarin course now in its sixth year
For the sixth year, the St Vincent and the Grenadines Community College (SVGCC) will provide lessons in Intermediate Mandarin for Vincentian students and working people interested in learning the language after work.
Siao An-Huei, a professional Mandarin teacher dispatched by the TaiwanICDF, has been teaching Mandarin in the Community College since 2014.
Siao said the courses are one aspect of mutual co-operation between the Republic of China (Taiwan) and St Vincent and the Grenadines. She was assigned by the TaiwanICDF not only to teach Mandarin at the SVGCC but also to exchange Taiwanese culture with the students of the Community College.
With abundant experience in assisting students to learn Mandarin, Siao stressed that patience and confidence are the most important factors in learning a foreign language. She also said that her students at the SVGCC are the most diligent in studying and creative students she has ever met in her career.
Siao expressed her gratitude for the help and support she has received from the students and staff of the SVGCC in the past five years. She emphasized that she has learnt a lot from her students about the culture and beauty of SVG.
In 2019, Siao, also known as Betty, will continue to teach Mandarin at the Community College. She graduated from the Department of Applied Chinese Language and Culture, National Taiwan Normal University in 2012.
