Saint James students donate supplies to Mental Health centre
The African Students Associations of Saint James School of Medicine recently donated a variety of items to the Mental Health Centre.
Two boxes of bleach (8 gallons) plus two additional liters, 48 bars of soap, 30 deodorants, 4 gallons of disinfectant, plus one additional litre, two large buckets of laundry detergent and a bag full of clothes and shoes were donated to the centre.
Departmental Manager Karen Gilgeours, Ward Manager Melissa Stowe and other staff members of the facility were present to accept the donations. They emphasized the importance of donations to the facility because it faces numerous challenges in terms of cleaning supplies and other materials.
The staff also encouraged the public to lend a helping hand in improving the lives of patients as the government cannot be the sole contributor to the facility. They expressed gratitude to the organization and stated that the items donated would go a long way to help in the care and maintenance of patients.
Kalsuum Nasser Deen, president of ASA, St James School of Medicine, was honored to present the donations to the Mental Health Centre. She stated that ASA will make it a point to donate to the mental facility at the end of every semester. One of the organization’s main aims is to encourage medical students to adopt the selfless acts of giving to the less fortunate in the society.
