CYA SVG welcomes 23 new members

The CARICOM Youth Ambassadors SVG Committee welcomed 23 members to serve the local committee, last Saturday, March 24.

At an initiation ceremony, Minister of National Mobilization, Social Development, Family, Gender Affairs, Persons with Disabilities and Youth Frederick Stephenson said the Vincentian CYA group is said to be the most productive in the region.

He challenged the 2018 members to take the positions seriously and to be positive role models.

“A lot of young persons in St Vincent and the Grenadines today need positive role models and persons whom they can speak to, persons whom they can interact with and persons whom they can emulate,” Minister Stephenson said.

Dean of the CYA SVG Andre Browne said that throughout 2017, the CYA local committee had engaged in a wide array of activities, namely, their work to raise awareness of crime and violence affecting women.

He explained that the committee had encouraged persons to wear something that was orange, in solidarity with the Orange Day Campaign on the 25th of every month. He said that a National Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) radio interview and a Facebook discussion about violence against women had stimulated conversation long after the interview.

The new committee is expected to serve for one year, implementing programmes which seek to uplift the youths of the nation.
