Local dramatist to ‘Talk de tings’ at Peace Mo

A local performer is dusting off her theatrical wig in order to tackle social issues in a humorous manner.

Reece Jacintha Edwards, who was formerly known in the theatre arena as Jacintha Barbour, is hosting ‘Pack of Jokaz – Talk de tings’ on October 28 and 29 at the Peace Memorial Hall.{{more}}

In an interview with SEARCHLIGHT, Edwards described her production as a series of skits that tackle social media’s effect on society, bleaching and deportation, among other social issues.

“Everyone keeps asking me to get back on stage, so I decided to join with the youths as a form of getting them involved in something positive and go forward to do the show” she said.

Edwards has forged a relationship with past and present dramatists in SVG and started the Reeja’s Theatre Alliance (RTA) which was made official on September 13, 2016.

According to her, RTA aims to pool together creative talents throughout the island, using the arts as a medium to address issues in the society.

“The company aims to foster community development, while creating a better environment for the youths of Green Hill, allowing them to develop their talents throughout the arts,” she added.

Edwards, a dramatist and playwright, has been involved in theatre for the past 25 years, having started in church from the age of 12.

She has also performed in the schools’ drama festival, under the leadership of Sandra Glasgow, before joining the Hairoun Theatre Company, where through the arts, she toured the Caribbean and performed at the Organization of American States (OAS) in Washington, DC. (AS)
