Garrett, former Sales and Marketing manager at FLOW, said that he founded Rebel Media in an attempt to not only revolutionize the way people party here, but to also help businesses put on exceptional events.
âI am hoping to do events and parties with a difference and as a result, bring something unique to St Vincent and the Grenadines,â said Garrett, a Barbadian with a strong entertainment background.
In relation to the first event, Famous, the promoter explained that he partnered with a number of persons and Famous was conceptualized. The event was held in a pop-up nightclub format and saw person partying at a transformed First Caribbean International Bank (FCIB) car park on Halifax Street.
Pop-up nightclubs, bars and restaurants began appearing worldwide in 2010. The concept is to transform a venue, any venue, into a temporary party spot and that is what Rebel Media did at the FCIB car park.
Garrett said that he first explored the pop-up trend in Barbados with an event called âFamous Thursdays,â which was held at St Lawrence Gap. He said that Famous Thursdays was a big hit in Barbados and he is hoping to repeat that here.
âThe first event here was good,â said Garrett, who added that the concept of taking a virgin venue and transforming it into a nightclub experience is something that can allow for great creativity.
Garrett said that the next Famous event can happen anywhere, in an old storeroom, a warehouse, âanywhere you can think about, itâs all about creating a party atmosphere or party vibe with powerful décor, lights, smoke and local and foreign DJsâ.
He added that the FCIB Bank yard is known for Carnival functions and for Famous, Rebel Media partnered with FCIB, took the empty space and conceptualized and made tangible, the feel and look of a nightclub atmosphere.
Garrett said that while they had a few challenges, he thinks that they delivered in terms of the concept, look, design and feel and it was a good first event.
Garrett is also aiming to introduce the âGuest Listâ concept to partygoers here, where persons will be asked to get listed through email and other means. The promoter noted that the concept is new to persons here and is not aimed at leaving out anybody, but to get persons more interested and in the know when it comes to events.
âWe will be targeting people and bringing them into our events by getting them listed. It is a new concept, but we are asking persons to get listed and as a result, listed persons will have a few perks,â explained Garrett, who noted that a number of persons were listed for Famous.
First time sponsors of Famous included what Garrett called a number of famous companies, âwe will always have somebody famous to hold the brand, a famous DJ, a famous entertainer and the first event had famous companies, like Mount Gay, Corona, Coreas Hazells, FCIB and Digicel. We are hoping that we can include more progressive companies that are famousâ, said Garrett.
The marketing man said that locally, venues here are not hard to find, as any venue can be transformed and with the first event, âwe have proven thatâ.
Garrett said that Rebel Media will always try to create above and beyond what peopleâs expectations are.
âWe can pop up anywhere. We are here to stay, so just look out and stay tuned. The first event has shown what we are capable of. The pop-up culture is the movement that is taking over the world. This is something different to do and we are giving people the choice to feel different,â stressed Garrett.
