CBSI to resume on September 12 at Grammar School
The Community Bible Study International, commonly referred to as CBSI, will resume here in SVG from September 12 at the Grammar School (wooden building) every Monday from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
CBSI, which is a non-denominational Bible programme has been in St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) since 2011 and hundreds of lives have been directly impacted as a result of this study.{{more}}
The programme is a tool geared towards making disciples for Jesus Christ. It is a systematic study of Godâs Word, where focus is primarily on the study of different books of the Bible and getting lessons that God wants us to apply to our lives today. This Bible study includes FIVE elements:
- Personal Home Study. At the end of each lesson, each member is given a handout with the questions. Each member is expected to spend time with God and complete this during the course of the week in preparation for the next class. The questions are divided into sections (Day 1, Day 2, etc) and we encourage persons to do a section a day to develop the habit of spending time daily in the Word.) The lessons also have memory verses attached to each lesson that members are encouraged to learn and share at class.
- Stimulating Discussion. At class, members, led by a facilitator, share and discuss their answers. God speaks to everyone and âiron sharpens ironâ.
- Effective Teaching. At the end of the discussion, everyone comes back together for a teaching on the passage that was just studied. This teaching focuses on how to apply the lesson that was just studied. It answers the questions, now that I have studied this, what do I do as a result? What does God now expect of me?
- Insightful Commentary. Pgs 1 and 2 of the lesson have a commentary written by a Bible scholar on the passage just studied. This helps to further understand the lesson and clarify any questions after the discussion and the lecture. Respected theologians help participants understand the historical context of the passage and how it relates to the rest of Scripture.
- Care for each member. We pray for each other and strive to build strong bonds with each other and demonstrate love in practical ways. “By this shall all men know that you are my disciples when you have love one for another.â
This Bible study is open to everyone, regardless of their knowledge of the Bible and attendance is free.
