The Courts Fashionista Competition, which takes place at the Courts Kingstown showroom this Thursday, August 25, beginning at 11:30 a.m., sees top local and up-and-coming fashionistas designing and making clothing, styled from pieces of Courts furniture found in-store.

Thursday’s final will see last year’s winner, Jamal Jacob, attempting to do the double stitch, by retaining the championship, while his sister, Dahvana Providence, who is also the 2014 champion, is vying to regain the title.

The other finalists are Dieta Tucker, Olecia Lynch, Solange Fernandez, Trecia Goddard, Devon Clarke, Julian Pollard, Chenise Hendrickson, RasAnn Seaton, Owen Paul, Anthony Bibby, and Roger Brasil.

Another group of young local talent, The Melisizwe Brothers, will be providing musical entertainment at the event.

Courts commercial manager Lisa Veira said that she was pleased with the interest that the competition is creating among the local designers, and expects that the competition would get bigger and better as time goes by.

“This year’s registration is the most that we have seen since the competition got started, which means that the news is spreading and persons are becoming more interested in the platform that we are providing for local talent.

“We are looking forward to the support of friends, family and well-wishers and of course, our customers, as usual, as we aim to bring you a great quality show with expert judges and great entertainment,” Veira said.
