CK Greaves Supermarket Pembroke pulls plug on Searchlight newspapers

Searchlight newspapers can no longer be purchased at CK Greaves Supermarket at Pembroke.

Last Thursday, just one day after SEARCHLIGHT posted to its Facebook page that Derek Minors, the supermarket’s manager had been arrested after being found with marijuana at his home, an employee of the supermarket called to say they would no longer sell the newspaper.{{more}}

While Searchlight is not usually sold at the Kingstown and Arnos Vale branches of the CK Greaves chain, it has been sold at the Pembroke branch of the supermarket since August 31, 2012, eight weeks after that supermarket opened.

When asked why the supermarket would no longer sell the newspaper, the employee declined to give a reason.

When Minors appeared in court last Wednesday, July 10, he pleaded guilty to charges of possession 155, 24 and 173 grams of cannabis with intent to supply to another.

Magistrate Bertie Pompey took into consideration Minors’ guilty plea and the fact that he was cooperative and had no record before the court. The businessman was fined $500 for the possession of 173 grams; failure to pay the fine would result in a two-month prison term. He was reprimanded and discharged for the two other charges.

The marijuana was found at Minors’ home at Villa in the early hours of Wednesday morning after Station Sergeant Nolan Dallaway led police officers of the Narcotics Department and the Rapid Response Unit (RRU) to Minors’ home to execute a search warrant.
