Remains found in shallow grave at Union Island may be missing baby

Police are carrying out investigations to ascertain whether remains found buried at the back of a house on Union Island are that of a baby.

But while medical professionals conduct tests to determine if the remains are human, islanders are confident that the tests will show that the remains are those of an eight month-old child they claim has been missing for a number of weeks now.{{more}}

Reports coming out of Union Island are that police officers stationed on the Grenadine island received information that an eight-month old baby was missing.

A police source said that officers went in search of the missing infant and acting on a tip, dug up a shallow grave at around 6:15 a.m. on Saturday, August 6, at the back of a house in Murrey, Clifton and found what appeared to be human remains.

A source on the island, who prefers to remain anonymous, has alleged that the remains are that of an infant that was murdered by a relative and buried with the help of friends, all of whom have since fled Union Island for a neighbouring country.

Police say the public will be updated after they receive the results of the test.(LC)
