Vinsave remembers humble beginnings

The Save the Children Fund (VINSAVE) formerly CANSAVE, is reflecting on the beginnings of the organization.

Fifty-three years ago on July 24, 1963, the foundation stone was laid by the Administrator, SH Graham OBE, for the beginning of the Save the Children Fund programmes in St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) by the British Save the Children Fund. The Canadians took responsibility for the programme in 1969, hence Cansave became a household name in SVG.{{more}}

In 1986, the agency became autonomous, with local administrators. First local director, Millicent Iton, was at the helm for a number of years, followed by Jeff James. The present director, Janice Fraser, had this to say: “Many children and their families have benefitted from the Save the Children Fund’s programmes over the years, and the agency is humbled by the contribution it has made over the years to the children and families of St Vincent and the Grenadines.”

The agency continues to move forward with renewed focus and vigour, even amidst the turbulent times which often threaten its existence.

Fraser gave thanks to God for His grace and to all the staff, past and present, the Governments of St Vincent and the Grenadines and the many donors who have contributed to the service of humanity through Vinsave.

Staff will engage in reflection over the coming week, even as they prepare for their Staff Development Session in August 2016.
