Four secondary school students benefit from VINLEC scholarships

St Vincent Electricity Services Limited (VINLEC) has granted four scholarships to children of employees who were successful in the 2016 CPEA. The children were awarded the scholarships under the company’s Education Awards programme.

VINLEC’s Education Awards programme was established in 1984 to

provide financial and moral assistance to children of employees, in an effort to help them reach their greatest potential and prepare them to participate in national development.{{more}}

This year’s awardees are Kamol Jeffrey, Tai Ballantyne, Ngozi Johnson and Rheanna Harry. Awardees will be provided with EC$1,200 annually, to assist with school related expenses.

Speaking at an orientation session for the children and parents on Wednesday, VINLEC’s manager Engineering (acting) Elrias Williams congratulated the children on their accomplishment.

He encouraged them to always study hard and strive for excellence, noting that this is one sure way to success. Williams also

said that the students will be required to make sacrifices if they intend to continue to do well. He called on the recipients to be positive leaders.

General secretary of the National Workers Movement Noel Jackson also addressed the session. He said that education is a significant part of the social fabric of the country. He called on the children to capitalize on the opportunity provided and encouraged the parents to support and supervise the children.

There are currently 29 children enrolled in the programme, 27 at the secondary level and two at the tertiary level. Since 1985, a total of 195 students have benefitted from VINLEC’s Education Awards programme.
