SVG ships more cattle to Grenada

Grenada continues to show interest in purchasing livestock and small ruminants from St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG), as a second set of purchasers arrived on island yesterday, July 25, to buy 40 heads of cattle.

Grenadians Cheyean Lewis, Stephen Whint and Denzil Lewis, of the company NDR, arrived on Monday and commended the nation’s farmers for continuing the good work over the decades, not only in agriculture, {{more}}but specifically in the livestock sector.

Minister of Agriculture Saboto Caesar noted that this inter-regional trade of agriculture commodities and livestock conforms to the quest of the Organization of the Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) to reduce the regional import bill.

“I welcome business-men and women from throughout the entire OECS who are interested in investing or purchasing our agriculture commodities and livestock,” Caesar said.

However, upon advice from the Veterinary Division within the Ministry of Agriculture, the minister stated that with the procurement of cattle, more protocols would be implemented to prevent the depletion of the national herd.

He also disclosed that the ministry is working with the governments of Jamaica and Cuba to implement an artificial insemination programme to ensure that the livestock sector is improved in both quality and quantity.
